Gryffindor
The person you’re buying for is a Gryffindor. You know because when someone asks them which house they’re in, they don’t reply “Oh I’m not really into all that sort of thing.” They know. They’ve always known. And if they’re the Gryffindor you’re buying for then they’ve very likely also told you at least once without you prompting them. So yes, this is very on brand for them. It’s also why you’re here.
Buying for Gryffindors isn’t actually tricky if you know what they care about. These are the heart-on-sleeve types. They believe in themselves. They’d rather try and fail than sit watching from the sidelines. They aren’t subtle with their loyalties and they don’t want subtle gifts. They want things that suit them. Things that are bold, warm, a little bit proud.
When we were compiling this list, quality was our main focus. There’s already plenty of Harry Potter tat out there that some poor soul thought was a good idea just because it had a crest on it. We didn’t want that. We wanted stuff that you feel good about placing on a shelf or wearing and isn’t worn ironically. We wanted stuff that makes a Gryffindor feel seen rather than simply sorted.
Age was something we considered carefully too; Gryffindor fans don’t just come in age eleven. The Gryffindor you know might be twenty five. They might be thirty five and have read the series more times than they care to admit. We wanted products that suit all those ages without seeming childish or, at the other end of the spectrum, so bogged down by sophistication that all the magic leaks out.
In the end we settled on a small selection that we’re really happy with. Each product was chosen specifically because it felt like it belonged. Not because it was easy to get hold of, or was on some lists that we didn’t care about, or was cheap enough to use as placeholders. To a Gryffindor, red and gold means something. It’s their bravery, it’s their loyalty, it’s refusing to shut up about the things they love. The best gifts for Gryffindors recognise that and doesn’t scream it from the rooftops. These don’t, they just celebrate it.
