Buying gifts for guitarists seems simple until you find yourself in a music store clueless if they already have it or not, if they even play the right gauge for that gear to make sense and whether you’re just giving someone an inherently offensive gift. They always have strong opinions about their gear.
We know how it is because we are those people too. Between us, we’ve played for decades. We’ve had the wrong thing given to us more than once. We’ve built up an understanding of what makes a great gift versus what gets tossed aside with the easter egg they never found.
ContentsCommerce hasn’t just thrown a bunch of obvious stuff together then padded it out to feel big and impressive. We skipped everything that would’ve been a placeholder and kept only items that would actually excite a player when they unwrap it. Some is blatantly useful in ways that might not seem exciting until you understand how much a guitarist depends on the small things being right. Things having to be right is important. The worst compliment you can give a guitarist is something that implies you didn’t really think about what they’d like.
We’ve also put a lot of thought into what kind of guitarist these gifts will be purchased for. The friend who’s been playing for twenty years and already owns everything is a much easier problem than their teenage cousin who just got their first electric guitar and doesn’t know what they want yet. We’ve tried to select items that work for everyone without turning it into purely safe options.
There are gifts here that will speak to the serious player. Gifts that let them know you know enough about what they love to pick something they’ll actually want. There are gifts for beginners that are still learning what they’re passionate about too. These are things that will be useful without talking down to the hobby they’re still excited about exploring. There are also some items in here that we truly believe will stop any guitarist in their tracks; the kinds of things that you pick up, scrutinise and then put down someplace where you’ll see it everyday.
The list is small on purpose. We’d rather you were pointed towards stuff we care about rather than giving you everything twice.
