Chewbacca
Star Wars fans and Chewie fans: there’s both of those groups and they are not always the same. Chewie fans aren’t looking for spaceships. They aren’t debating whether purist lightsabers are blue or green. They aren’t fighting over who gets the Ren Funko Pop first. They love Star Wars, but they are specifically here for one big, roaring pilot who has never been properly recognised for his achievements and who is, in every one of his appearances, the most loveable character in the franchise. That is a specific niche to care about and it requires specific gifts.
We compiled this list because so many Swag companies subsume Chewbacca into generic merch. His face ends up on a mug with five other characters from the films, or grouped together with Han because let’s face it, he’s clearly the star of that bundle. If you love Chewie specifically, that’s never good enough. We wanted gifts that put Chewbacca front and centre, that a true Chewie aficionado would find and think ‘these people get me.’
So everything here had to pass a simple quiz. Would someone who actually likes Chewbacca want this gift? Or is it someone shoehorned onto a bundle because it was cheap to use his likeness? We discovered a lot of gifts failed that quiz. The gifts that made the cut all felt special, like you pick them up and know immediately who you’ll be giving them to. That sort of specificity is what will make people remember your gifts years down the line.
Part of what we love about making this list focused on Chewbacca is that people who like him tend to be kind, hilarious, and never take their love of Chewbacca too seriously. Gift-wise they aren’t necessarily looking for something sleek or museum-worthy. They want something that will make their office mates laugh, or that will sit on their desk and brighten their Tuesday morning, or that they can actually wear/use.
