South Park
Shows come and go. South Park started in 1997 and still hits harder than a lot of content produced last week. Longevity is important when considering a purchase, because a gift built around something you know they love versus something they half watched last year is a completely different animal.
The friend you’re buying for watches every episode. They drop quotes at random. They have *thoughts* on when the show peaked and will explain those thoughts to you for hours. What they don’t have is cool shit to show that off. Most merch out there at retailers isn’t made with any love, nor is it subtle enough to feel like more than a gimmick. We tried to avoid both of those when we were putting this together.
We only included things we would confidently give to the most hardcore of friends. Not something they’ll accept because it was “sorta funny and you watched it too”. The difference between a gift that screams “I was browsing Twitter when I thought of you” and one that whispers “I know you well enough to get this” is important. We’re going for the latter every time.
It also appeals to multiple generations. The friend who was getting into cool things right when it premiered is well into their forties now. The sibling who found it on Netflix thinks they discovered it. Both are equally entitled to like it and will both appreciate a gift that approaches the show with the same sense of irreverence it approaches everything.
We didn’t want this to be endless. There’s no need to list every single thing we could find just to rake up page views. People who love south Park especially can smell shit that was “PUT IN FRONT OF ME” vs “CHOSEN FOR ME” a mile away. They watch a show that’s dedicated twenty five years to criticizing half effort. The bar is not lowered, it’s raised.
Everything we included we’d gift to ourselves. Period. That’ll keep your list shorter than you think and everything here is worth your time.
