Some fandoms are easy. Some fandoms take dedication. Walking Dead fans are the later. They’ve watched every season multiple times. They have strong opinions on Shane that they will happily share for hours. And they’ve likely told you at some point that the comics were better. Wanting to buy that person something cool is admirable, but unless you’ve put some effort in it’ll never feel like quite enough. You know those gifts, the ones you grab off a shelf with a zombie on it. We’ve got one too and trust us, when that happens everyone knows it.
We wanted something better than that. Something that understands what it means to be a fan of the Walking Dead. Not stuff that exists solely because some marketer decided to pay for the rights to slap a character on it. But cool stuff that a fan would want to buy for themselves. That raised the bar on what we were looking for significantly. It also let us be honest about stuff that didn’t quite make the cut. If your introduction to Walking Dead merch is from the gift aisle you’ll notice a lot of it is pretty thin. Almost halfway poster quality and bears the Official Walking Dead Logo!™ But that’s about it. We didn’t want to bother with any of it.
The remaining stuff, that’s where you’ll find some real gems. The kind of things you get for that person who can name every character and quote every season (and still give them a reaction). Some of it leans into how great the show can be at its darker edges. The moral dilemmas. How it asks the question what would you become when there are no more rules? Some of it is just straight up collector grade. Real pieces that a fan will want to display rather than just own. Because let’s be honest, Rick Grimes does not deserve a keyring.
We figured while we were on this journey you might be too. Buying for a hardcore Walking Dead fan can be tricky. You probably know enough about the show to understand the contours. But not enough that you can guarantee what’ll be loved and what’ll feel cheap. That’s why we did the work so you don’t have to.
