Grand Theft Auto
GTA doesn’t fit neatly into the category of “Video Game Franchise.” It’s a phenomenon, a sentiment, a decades-long conversation about a collection of games that happened to revolve around one of the most important cultural landmarks of the last 25 years. If you love GTA you love it fiercely. You remember exactly where you were when you first booted up San Andreas. You spent three hours just driving around Los Santos when you had no storyline missions left because you couldn’t quit once you got into that world.
Gift shopping for that kind of fan is easy if you know your shit and borderline impossible if you don’t.
We compiled this list because for as many GTAs there are, fans of the series are often underserved by “obvious” merchandise. Lots of shitty products with the GTA logo slapped on it and not much thought beyond that. Throwaway screen prints, boring mugs, merch literally no one associated with making cares about because nobody played the games. We wanted a cure for that.
Everything here has meaning. We triple checked the references, made sure the quality was up to snuff. Picked it because we know our fans well enough to know they’d appreciate these as much as we do.
Speaking of fans. GTA fans come in a lot of varieties. Teenagers listening to Vice City radio until they realize they’re smiling without realizing it. Competitive RL players staying up until 4am fighting to dominate the leaderboards in GTA Online. Fans of the satire, fans of the writing, fans of just how goddamn massive and ludicrously detailed Rockstar is able to make this world.
Anyone can think of gifts. Anyone can chuck every GTA themed hoodie known to man onto a shelf and call it good. We’re not doing that, we’re giving you our honest opinion about what we would get for the person who owns every game and knows GTA3 on sight.
Quality matters. (TM)
