Cheese
There are wine people. Chocolate people. Then there are cheese people. The ones we trust. If there’s a cheese person in your life you know this already. A selection box from the supermarket just isn’t going to wow them. They have standards. Preferences. Feelings. About rinds and caves and milk temperature and leaving something on a cloth in a Somerset barn for months. Cheese people have opinions and they are a feature to be worked with, not a problem. Finding the perfect gift to match them is the challenge.
We built this shop for that cheese person. The one who doesn’t just pick up a chunk of cheddar and crack on but who gets excited about affinage, who knows instinctively what they’re looking for from a Montgomery vs a Westcombe, who would rather receive one thing that blows their mind than a whole wheel of forgettable cheese.
Everything we’ve picked has been done with that person in mind. It’s either put an exceptional product in their hands or made the existing experience of eating great cheese that little bit better.
That means we’ve considered the food itself, sure. But we’ve also dug into the equipment around it. The boards and knives and extras that compliment rather than ruin something truly great. We don’t want the novelty cheese knife set that never gets taken out of the drawer. We’re looking for the tool that becomes their go-to, or the subscription that delivers something they wouldn’t have tried otherwise and completely transforms an otherwise bleak February day.
Cheese also has a lovely characteristic when it comes to gifts. It’s not precious. You share it. Open it. Eat it around a table with other human beings. We like that. The best gifts should have an impact beyond the tearing of the wrapping paper and a chunk of excellent, well considered cheese has that in spades.
We’ve kept this small because when it comes to cheese, it’s easy to go broad. We don’t think that’s the right way to do things. Every product here is something we’d buy ourselves, for a person whose taste we admire, without hesitation. That’s the bar we’ve set.
