Personalized Cushions
Everyone knows the personalised gift. That horrible cushion. A cushion with a photo printed on it that’s not been taken recently. All blurry, washed out colours, cheap padding sitting halfway off centre on a sofa. That isn’t a gift, that’s an accident. We combed through the internet for pillows that weren’t like that. Cushions that someone would want on their sofa, rather than politely retire to the couch in the spare room.
The ones you see below passed the test of looking good as cushions. Simple enough criteria, but you’d be surprised how many personalised gifts fail at just being good products. The print quality has to actually look nice IRL, not just in the online product photos. But most importantly, they have to not feel cheap. They have to feel like someone put thought into getting a gift for someone else.
We think personalised gifts like these work best for specific occasions. Moving into a new house. Getting married. A houses warming. That kind of situation where you want to give someone a gift that is uniquely theirs rather than something anybody could have picked up. A cushion like this can be kept and loved for years if it’s done right. But if it’s cheap, then it winds up at the back of a drawer.
We’ve included cushions that take different approaches because different people will want different things when they’re looking for a gift like this. Some of our favourite pillows here keep it minimal; a name, date, location. Some go full-on photo and actually do it well. We’ve seen some photos printed on pillows that are so terrible it looks like they just stuck a sticker on there. Others lean into sentiment without making you want to physically throw up.
They all pass one major test. We would buy any of them for friends and family. Not because we ran out of ideas or gift cards and didn’t have anything else to get them. But because we would genuinely drop the bill for any of these and consider it the perfect gift for the person. That’s the only reason we include anything on this list.
