30th Birthday
Thirty is the one birthday where nobody seems to know how to act. It’s important enough that you can’t get away with garbage, but not important enough that you need to make a giant deal out of it like some people try. Someone turning thirty has figured out what they like by that point. They know good taste. Good news if you’re the person picking something, because it means store brand is out and laziness will be obvious.
We curated this list because thirties are the hardest birthday to shop for. Too old for the grand gestures but too young for the novelty nonsense. Right in the sweet spot of having an actual life you’d want to celebrate. We thought about what a gift for this birthday should be. Personal but not cheesy. Picked by someone who knows them. Something that feels considered. Because it deserves to be.
We only included things we would feel comfortable handing over at a thirtieth birthday. Whether that be yours, your oldest friend that you’ve known since you were both idiots, your sibling that has officially joined the real world, or your partner that you’ll be hitting the big 3-0 with. We wanted each item to feel important without feeling stuffy.
You’ll find some experiences in here. Ones that you wouldn’t have appreciated at twenty but feel just right at thirty. You’ll find some goods, well-made and selected to stand the test of time. And you’ll find some things we think they’ll love that they’d never buy themselves. We love the last category especially. Giving the gift that they won’t know they wanted until they open it is what gift giving is all about.
This list is intentionally small. A few things we had passionate feelings about is better than doubling the list with stuff we didn’t fully believe in. Your thirty year old isn’t going to appreciate a mega list with no curator.
