3rd Anniversary
Three years is an odd anniversary. There’s less significance behind it than five or ten, and it’s certainly not going to be marked with the champagne corks that popped when you reached year one, but actually it’s one of the better milestones. By year three you know each other properly. The excitement has faded into something richer and more meaningful, and more unique to you. So this anniversary is the one that should be celebrated with a gift that matches that, something that acknowledges your relationship is about more than just another bunch of flowers and a card.
Traditionally the third anniversary is celebrated with leather gifts. We love this idea because leather actually makes sense as a tradition. It’s soft but durable, gets better with age and bears its marks proudly. It doesn’t fall apart at the first hardship. If only more relationships could say the same! So lots of the items we’ve picked echo that theme. We don’t like to let tradition hold us back if there’s a truly wonderful gift on offer, but many of our suggestions are leather.
What we really wanted to focus on though were gifts that speak to the person you’re celebrating. Gifts that don’t need to be custom ordered months ahead of time but that do show you were thinking about who they are. Who they spend their life with. We wanted gifts that honed in on what they use day to day; what they have tucked in their pockets. Things that they’ll reach for again and again, that will get better with time. Loved possessions that, like your relationship, are made to last.
We’ve picked gifts for couples, rather than just one half of a couple. After all, an anniversary is about two people. Lots of these would also make great joint gifts. Something that represents the experiences you’re sharing and the life you’re building together too, rather than just one person in it. We didn’t include any items just because they look nice on a photograph or come in cute packaging. We only picked things we’d happily give to the people we know. Because Three years is worth spending on gifts that won’t end up left untouched in a drawer. It’s worth spending on something that earns a place in your partner’s life.
