It sounds easy. Buy a gift for a Canes fan. Put some jersey on Black Friday. Until you’re in the aisle cringing over whether they already own that player’s jersey, second guessing if that mug is actually made of cardboard, or wondering if the thing your cousin insisted you look at is even any good besides having the right logo on it. Hurricanes fans are special like that too. They’ve watched this team come into their own the last few years. They remember when “nobody thought hockey could work in Raleigh.” They aren’t going to settle for some logo keychain that someone thinks “counts.”
So we dug through all of that crap and selected the things we would actually give as gifts. Not just because they technically have the Canes logo on it. We picked the stuff we thought would land just right with a real Hurricanes fan; whether that’s your grandfather who has been watching since the Whalers left, or your neighbor who fell in love three seasons ago and has since adopted all things Canes.
Occasion is something we think about a lot when we curate collections like this. Maybe you’re grabbing a birthday gift for your best friend who literally wears Carolina black everywhere. Maybe you just want something awesome to celebrate another Hurricanes season. Maybe you got a little Canes fanatic in your life that decided hockey was everything this year and you want to get them something they’ll actually use instead of lose under their bed in a week. We tried to think of all those occasions.
Our northstar when selecting these was would we actually give this as a gift. Sure does it ship quickly? Sure, does it photograph well for Instagram? Does it fill a price tier we weren’t already covering? Nope, none of those things mattered. Would we feel good handing this gift over? If the answer was maybe it didn’t make the cut.
