Alien
Movies exist on different planes. Some sink into the earth until they’re no longer movies. Alien is one of those movies. Released in 1979, it never really went away. Not the images, not the suspense, not that fucking motion tracker beeping through silence. The people in your life who love Alien are not drifting fans. They have thoughts on the best entry point for new fans of the franchise. They know when merchandise gets the design wrong. They do not want some stupid Space Horror gift that could be from E.T. Cobra debuted next week. They want something that earned its spot on their shelf.
That’s what we wanted to find. Not the stuff that shows up when you do an Amazon search and is shelved in a warehouse next to thousands of other licensed products. We wanted pieces that feel like they were created by fans of the movie. The xenomorph itself is one of the most meticulously designed monsters in movie history. HR Giger’s work is nightmare fuel and we mean that in the best way possible. Anything worthy of that deserved more care in its creation than stamping a logo on a coffee mug.
Everything here we picked ourselves against one criterion. Would we give this to someone who loves Alien so thoroughly that they’d know if this felt cheap or half-assed. A lot got cut by that standard. What made it into this collection is specific, well made, and was chosen with that kind of fan in mind. Someone who has watched the scenes on the Nostromo so many times they can still see something new in them.
Bonus points for how much of this will also please fans of the larger Alien franchise. Aliens, Prometheus, everything that expanded the mythos from that first movie. There’s enough here for the completionist, the casual viewer, the person who already has the poster but not anything to hang with it, and that person’s friend who absolutely needs something to convey how high and mighty their science fiction standards are.
Alien isn’t some nostalgia property you laugh about with your friends. It scares you. Get gifts that are just as good as that.
