Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park is one of those films that belongs to a particular summer. Or every summer since 1993, when it was released and somehow never seemed to age. Kids who grew up loving it are still obsessed with it as adults. They still go silent the second John Williams’ score comes up, they’re still convinced a dinosaur will burst through the window if they don’t move. Those people don’t outgrow that fascination, they just find ways to feed it.
Choosing gifts for Jurassic Park fans is trickier than you’d think. A lot of the obvious stuff seems designed to be tossed into a drawer for murky private fetishes. Cheap costumes and poorly rendered knickknacks that look impressive on screen but about as enthusiastically manufactured as you can get. We haven’t gone in that direction at all. Instead we’ve tried to focus on gifts that take the IP seriously. Gifts that were clearly created with someone like you in mind; fellow enthusiasts rather than airport baggage claim.
The difference between licensed merchandise and something you actually want to collect or own is vast. Novelties clutter up closets and desks, but these are gifts. We have one standard here; if we wouldn’t want to it ourselves we didn’t include it. That means we left a lot of toys and random crap on the cutting room floor. Too many of them were banking on your love being fauxous rather than genuine. Didn’t tap into what made Jurassic Park such a great movie. The dinosaurs. The wonder. The hubris of mankind thinking that dinosaurs were a problem that could be solved.
