Things sometimes don’t want to be filed. We’ve been working on this site long enough to know that the very best gifts sometimes come with a warning sticker that doesn’t fit our taxonomy very well. And forcing something into a bucket to make an algorithm happy just isn’t right. So these are their loose threads.
We assure you that this is not a dumpster fire. Really. Nothing is here because we ran out of time, forgot about it, or didn’t have enough willpower. Everything here has gone through our same rigorous process as everything else on the site. We took it seriously, debated about it as a team, and decided that it was absolutely worth your while. It’s only marker of difference is that it didn’t fit neatly into a category we already had. That’s a limitation of our filing, not the quality of the gift.
There’s a lot of things that made us raise an eyebrow here. These are gifts that made someone on our team say “have you seen this?” and then go quiet for a bit because it was genuinely difficult to categorise. Not crazy because it’s funny. Not novelty items trying too hard to be Stuff You’ll Want. Genuine gifts that don’t quite fit into the conventional boxes. The kind of gift that proves someone actually spent time thinking about you, instead of ticking you off a gift list.
Some of these gifts are for people who fall through the gaps and are notoriously difficult to buy for because they’d probably wallpaper their house with office supplies. Some of these don’t care when you give them, which means they’re great for birthdays or thank you gifts or just because you can’t be arsed finding an occasion. Others we won’t claim to know where we’d place them, other than that when we imagine giving it to someone, we always smile at the thought of their reaction.
We edit this page pretty aggressively. Categories get picked when we have enough stuff to dedicate a collection to it. And new stuff pops up when something new comes along that blows our mind but we just can’t place. See this less like a junk drawer and more like that little alley at the back of the market that doesn’t have a sign, but always has the coolest stuff.
