Deadpool
Gift shopping for Marvel fans? Easy enough. Find something with the appropriate logo on it. Wrap it. Done. Deadpool fans? Now you’re talking. Anyone who likes Deadpool knows they’re not normal. They don’t want normal. They want weird. Gift options that are as outrageous as a character that once stopped a fight in the middle of a busy city street to break the fourth wall and comment on comic book continuity.
That’s why this collection was so much fun to put together.
When we looked at the wider gift market for Deadpool merchandise we kept seeing the same disappointing trend. Deadpool gets marketed horribly. We see trucks loads of stuff with the red suit and that over-used “I’m Deadpool” logo plastered across everything. Mugs. Mouse mats. Poster cards. Even worse, a lot of this “merchandise” doesn’t really make sense for Deadpool as a character. It’s cheesy. We’re not going that route.
Every gift in this collection had to have something Deadpool fans will recognise as being true to the character. Humorously dark. Self aware. Lazy. Knowledgable. Mostly chaotic. Most of all, Deadpool merch has to avoid being boring at all costs.
Deadpool fans generally fall into one of two categories. You’ve got the die-hard who has loved Wade Wilson from way back before Disney made him a household name. They’ll be able to tell you about all the comics (and will definitely have an opinion about Civil War). Then you have the person who watched the first Deadpool movie three times while it was in cinemas and will listen to endlessly nerd out about it. Either of these people do not need a silly keyring they picked up at the last motorway service station they visited.
What we focused on was intelligence. A Deadpool without a good wit is basically just some guy wearing a red suit. No thank you. Your favourite Deadpool is snarking on everyone, not buying into his own hype. He’s aware he’s a fucking cartoon. The best gifts here have that feel to them. Some self awareness. A certain willingness to joke about themselves. Someone who gets Deadpool made these. Bonus points if it made us chuckle when we picked it out. A number of these ticked that box.
We kept this selection small for a reason. There’s a ridiculous number of Deadpool products out there. We’re here to tell you where to spend your money.
