No superhero resonates with their fans quite like Spider- Man. Batman is wealthy, Superman is powerful, but Peter Parker started out by getting it wrong. He lost someone. He screwed up at a pivotal moment and has been paying penance for it ever since. That is what makes Spider- Man relatable. People don’t just like Spider- Man they feel like they understand him on a personal level. And that is what makes choosing a Spider- Man gift meaningful.
Choosing wisely.
This collection is for a certain kind of Spider-Man fan. The person who grew up with him and never quite grew up with him entirely. The twenty-something who still remembers when a new costume was announced in a trailer and has a strong opinion about which movie portrayed him best. The ten-year-old who right now is at the age where Spider-Man is the answer to every “what do you want to be” question they’re asked. Both those people deserve more than something that was just given a spider symbol on it to sell it as merchandise.
That is the benchmark we set when we compiled this. Sure, we could have thrown in any number of items that were branded with the web swinger but we wanted more. We wanted to hunt down the kind of gifts that would resonate with a fan. That showed some effort was put into picking things that fit the person you’re buying for and what they specifically love about Spider- Man. Stuff that catered to the comic book fan, not just someone who recognizes the movie iterations. Nods that a true fan will pick up on immediately.
But we also didn’t want to limit the range to one age group. Kids are given cartoons these days that we barely knew about when we were that age. Some of these toys will appeal perfectly to the 7-year-old just being introduced to the joys of Spider-Man. Some of it is for the 35-year-old who has a collection of the first 200 issues on their bookshelf and can recite off the top of their head why the Ditko era was revolutionary. Spider- Man is for everyone at any age and we made sure this collection could cater for each decade.
As you can imagine, there is a lot of thought that goes into a Spider-Man collection this size. Every item you see here was curated because it met our standards, if something looked cool but didn’t have that Spider- Man flair we excluded it. We wanted this to be a collection we would browse ourselves.
