Gift shopping for someone with a PlayStation under their TV looks deceptively simple. Until you actually find yourself there, deliberating over whether they already own a given game, if their headset needs upgrading or if the controller in your hands works with which version of the console. Hyperventilate slowly. We've built hours down this rabbit hole.
So this time we built the guide around doing the homework. We play PlayStation. Hell, some of us live and breathe it. That meant we were starting from a different place than most gifting guides will. We weren't window shopping and selecting items that sounded reasonable. We were thinking about what we'd actually want gifted to ourselves and let me tell you that is a much more worthwhile frame to filter suggestions through.
Games are always going to seem like the answer. And y'know what? They absolutely are sometimes. Because genuinely nothing else feels as nice to a gamer as handing them a title they can sink an entire weekend into. But for the act of picking a game to really pay off, you need to know what they like. What they already own. And whether they're the kind of player that wants something to submerge themselves in solo or fighting friends at eleven on a Wednesday night. They're not the same people and they don't want the same thing.
But outside of games there's a whole world of stuff gamers appreciate more than they'll overtly say. Audio is massive. Most people are listening throughshit speakers that don't do the audio design anywhere near justice. Comfort is huge during a long session and won't become apparent until you're three hours in. And there's a pile of peripheral options that sound intimidatingly tech but honestly just enhance the entire experience in ways your lad or lady will notice everytime they sit down to play.
We didn't want to make this list long for list's sake. We narrowed our selections down to stuff we'd truly want gifted to us. Not one thing here is filler, not one recommendation was made because it made us look good or was easy to find. If you know your person, the right choice should be pretty clear.
