There are Zelda fans, and then there are Zelda fans who don’t have to tell you they’re Zelda fans. You know the ones. The ones who named their horse Epona after forty minutes of your horse having no name. The ones who cut you off mid sentence to aggressively nod at an owl and grunt “Kaepora Gaebora” under their breath. The ones who have opinions on the timeline that they will spill forth into your ear should you so much as inhale too loudly around them. Those are our people. We know them because, in a lot of cases, we are them.
As you can imagine picking out something for one of these folks can be easier and harder than it sounds. It’s easier because their love will go deep and Hyrule has given us plenty to choose from. It’s harder because video game merchandise rarely lives up to the feeling of playing these games. You don’t want to spend your money on a monstrosity produced in China with a Triforce on it and call it good. Breath of the Wild is what happens when you want something that reminds you of Zelda. Tears of the Kingdom is crafted to fill that empty hole with fellowship. Ocarina of Time does this to people who pick it up again years later.
We’ve been selective. We wanted gifts that fit the tone of the series. Something a fellow Hylian would open and feel seen. Feel understood. There’s a difference. Seeing someone understands you get a gift. Understanding someone gets you a gift that someone actually spent a minute thinking about you and what this game means to you.
We picked gifts that will be just as useful whether they are the thirty something that cried when they finally beat Majora’s Mask or the fourteen year old currently spending their third hundred hours in their first ever Hyrule adventure. Because the beauty of Zelda is no matter when you started you can spend the rest of your life exploring it.
