Tequila
Everyone knows the kind of tequila that tastes like a regretful undergrad night out. Most people never progress past that. That’s the tequila that makes people swear off for decades. We wanted this collection to showcase the other end of the spectrum. The añejos aged long enough to align themselves with whisky instead of shots, the small batch blancos with crisp minerality that garner a cult following among connoisseurs and the reposados that repay you when you slow down and actually taste them.
Tequila is a really underrated gift. Most people fall back on whisky or wine because it’s easy, because there’s a whole lot more common knowledge surrounding them. Choose a nice bottle of tequila instead and you end up with something that feels more considered. More personal. The recipient knows you put effort into selecting something outside of your comfort zone.
We have a lot of interest in agave based spirits. We’ve had for some time now. Every spirit in this collection earns its place because we’ve spent enough time researching to know they deserve it. None of them made the cut because of a pretty bottle or a celebrity endorsement sticker. We looked at quality, we looked at provenance, we looked at whether the brand had something to say with how they approach their distillery. Brands we really liked got tossed in the pile. Those that made the cut are spirits that we would personally buy for ourselves or grab from a shelf and thrust into someone else’s hands with a simple “trust me on this.”
We also considered who these gifts would be for. Some of them are for the avid tequila drinkers out there who would appreciate a bottle they may not have stumbled across yet. Others are for those who have only had the grim concoction served at dive bars and need to see what tequila can really taste like when made correctly. Either of these people make great gift recipients. Exploration is rewarded when it comes to spirits and a quality bottle is the perfect catalyst for that exploration.
