Whisky is one of those gifts where bad can mean mundane and good can mean unforgettable. Most people recognise this gap when they look at it from afar, but are acutely aware of it when confronted with forty shelves of bottles wondering what to pick.
We built this collection to do that proper part of the gap up. Every item has been individually selected by us for a certain kind of recipient. Not the person you’re trying to get into whisky. But the person who knows what they like, and deserves a surprise they didn’t know they were looking for. That was a harder brief than it sounds like.
So Scotland has predictably received the lion’s share of attention. But we haven’t excluded places purely because they aren’t Scottish. What we have been discriminatory about is quality. If something didn’t meet its place based on taste, narrative or the kind of heritage that adds value to the spirit, it isn’t featured. We also haven’t included anything where the packaging cost more than the whisky inside it.
What you will find inside is eclectic. Single malts from established distilleries that don’t need gimmicks to sell bottles, Japanese whisky that will wow somebody who thinks they’ve tried everything and blended whisky that actually tastes as good as everyone’s cocksman brands boasting about theirs claim to. We’ve also included a few accessories and experiences for those who have all the bottles but want to take their drinking to the next level.
Whisky gifts tend to fall into certain timeframes. Big birthdays, ‘Congratulations on Retirement’ celebrations, Fathers Day, Christmas and just general ‘wow you so I got you something’ type moments.
