Father's Day
Father’s Day gets a bad rap. Not because fathers are difficult to purchase gifts for, oh no. We stopped caring what we give dads the minute we realised we were supposed to care in the first place. And once June rolls around we all just default to the selfsame pile of who-really-cares merchandise from down-the-road-industrial-unit-shop. BBQ toolset in a tin. Novelty printed socks. A mug with ‘World’s Best’ filched from your child’s homework and slapped next to something he has never in his life claimed to be best at. We’re sorry for every single one of those gifts, frankly. And we suspect most dads are too gracious to admit it but feel embarrassed about them too.
So we went back to the drawing board and asked what we’d really like to receive. What we’d be proud to unwrap, not because it fills a bullet point on a gift list but because it feels like you made an effort. It was actually then we stumbled upon these. The answers weren’t always what we expected, because they were almost never what you’d think to pick first. But they were always specific. Well considered. And most importantly they all speak to the idea that dads are people with their own preferences too, not just a marketing segment that you casually sodomise with a socket wrench when targeting them in Q2.
We picked everything in this collection ourselves. Some of it is for dads who really do have everything and could use a little something that shows you were thinking about them rather than just buying stuff. Some of it is for dads who would love something they’ve literally wanted for years but would never buy themselves because suddenly they’re adults who buy practical things. Everybody else’s hobbies come first because that’s Dad. We noticed that too, and think it’s great ammunition to work with. Some of it is for new dads that you haven’t had time to get to know as well as you want, and you know the gift will have to speak volumes about your nephew.
We kept this gift guide small and intentional for a reason. We believe wholeheartedly in everything you see here and there are only about a dozen products in total. We would much rather build your trust with a short list we know is right than barrage you with a long list full of crap masquerading as gifts because it came with a ribbon. If you won’t find it here, it didn’t pass us. Simple as that.
