50th Birthday

Fifty is not a birthday you can slip quietly past. Someone you care about is hitting a milestone that feels important, that demands more than an afterthought, and suddenly a bottle of wine and a card feels absurdly insufficient. We felt that pressure too. Which is why we’ve curated this collection with more care than we usually give ourselves credit for. The trouble with a fiftieth birthday is that the lucky recipient has generally spent fifty years acquiring most of the things they actually want. They probably have the kitchen gadgets. They’ve got a set of decent wine glasses. They’re not short of scarves. So you need to think smarter. Shift from things that sit on shelves to gifts that celebrate who they are now and what they should get to do next. That philosophy is the foundation for everything featured here. Some of our suggestions are purely about quality. Things that are beautifully made and that they’d never reasonably buy themselves. Some are about creating an experience. Because once in a while you just want to celebrate, not stuff stuff onto a worktop. Some are totally personal. It’s the parent who now has time to follow their dream they had to put on hold when the children were born. It’s the boss who deserves something seriously luxurious and wouldn’t dream of asking.
