1st Anniversary

We hear you about first anniversaries. Easy to say. Hard to get right when you’re standing there trying to figure out what on earth to get. A year married. Sounds trivial, but it’s not nothing. It’s worth more than a card and a dinner reservation at some place nice. Finding that perfect something, though… now that is trickier than most people realise. Go too big and you’re try-harding. Go too small and well… it looks like you realised what day it was at 8am that morning. The first year is paper, which you’ll know if you’ve been anywhere near a wedding in the last year. It’s either a wonderful tradition or a completely mind-boggling one depending on your point of view. We like to think it’s wonderful. Plus it’s got history. Paper is about something fragile made meaningful. Not a bad symbol for your first year of marriage if you ask us. We haven’t bowled over proudly learnt about it and instead looked for gifts with that same vibe. Items with heart. Stuff that took effort and won’t merely gather dust on a shelf. Gifts that feel less bought and more handmade. So there’s no shitty couples hamper here. If we’d seen something that was genuinely cool but also liked saying ‘awwww that’s so first anniversary!’ we probably would’ve included it. Everything we’ve picked though, we picked because it felt right for this moment. Because a year of being with someone is a big deal and it deserves an equally big gesture. Gifts for her, gifts for guys, things for couples. We tried to pick stuff for everyone. And speaking of everyone, we picked things with the recipient in mind just as much as the occasion. Some of these gifts are for you guys to enjoy together. Some are aimed squarely at your partner because let’s be real – you can probably think of them far better than us. Gifts that celebrate your first year together. Not in a cheesy way. But in a way that lets them know you’ve been paying attention. First years should be celebrated. They also sneak up on you and mean more than you might let on. The perfect gift recognises that. It doesn’t need to to be cheesy or tacky to show that you’re getting the significance of the occasion. We were looking for that when we put this list together. And we think we’ve finally done it.
