2nd Anniversary

Two years in is a weird and specific time to buy someone a gift for. Your first anniversary has its own ceremony to it, and further along the road the milestones do the heavy lifting for you. But two years lands softly in between feeling big without actually being all that exciting to celebrate. Coming up with something worthy of the moment means thinking harder than most will. As it happens, the traditional material to celebrate two years of anything is cotton. Listen how that sounds. Cotton. It’s the sort of trivia that you google and then promptly disregard because you’re now left wondering what in the world to actually buy with that information. But we’d argue there’s something to take seriously here, because cotton represents all of the cozy minutiae that makes a life shared with another person. Sheet sets you spent countless nights burrowing into together. The soft faded fabric of a lovedy that’s been well worn from too much use and not enough washing. If feels like it was made for two years together. And so we started with cotton, and built out from there. Some of our finds dig into that tradition with earnest, providing cotton-y gifts done right. Other products we came across are cotton all metaphor, embracing less the material and more the feeling of what two years actually is. To that end it’s comfortable. Really comfortable. Two people who have figured out that they like each other well enough to not have to pretend all the time. Who’ve settled into each other’s lives and become...routine, and loved it. We wanted gifts that reflected all of that. We weren’t going for sparkle here. Two years isn’t the time for those kinds of gestures. But it is the place for little nods that say you were paying attention. Things that matter enough to hit their mark but are also well thought out enough to not scare anyone away. This is two years. The gifts we’ve included here are ones we’d buy for the people in our lives if we were standing in your shoes right now. Everything else we just didn’t trust. Some things we loved were too impersonal. Stunningly gorgeous, but sterile. Perfect for an instagram post but will likely stay boxed for “best”. We didn’t include those. Some were too lightweight. Sweet, but not quite to the level that feels like it’s marking a second anniversary. What you’re left with is our best bets. The short list of gifts we actually trust to get right. Because that’s really the only list worth publishing.
